SMART HEALTH 4 ALL
SMART HEALTH 4 ALL

The SMART-HEALTH-4-ALL project aimed to boost, in Portugal, an ecosystem dedicated to research and development (including clinical and translational research), production, commercialisation and dissemination of Smart Health medical technologies based on information, communication and electronic technologies (ICT) and future and emerging technologies (FET), thus crossing different areas of knowledge.

In this context, Smart-Health solutions therefore have enormous potential, also driven by ongoing developments in, for example, ICT, FET and broadband data connectivity, as well as, at European level, by the Digital Single Market.

The SMART-HEALTH-4-ALL project crossed different areas of knowledge, such as medical and health sciences and engineering, as well as crossing high-tech sectors (e.g. ICT, nanotechnologies) with other so-called traditional sectors (textiles, footwear, plastics and furniture), both in production and services. The project ranged from the production of knowledge to the widespread dissemination of the solutions developed, applicable both in the context of formal healthcare provision and in the day-to-day lives of a vast universe of users/patients, with a special focus on socially and economically impactful areas in the context of the global healthcare market.

From a medical/clinical point of view, the focus was on the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment/rehabilitation of diseases and other medical conditions, mainly of a chronic nature and/or linked to ageing, including neurological, brain-cardiovascular, cardiorespiratory, osteoarticular and diabetes diseases.

In PPS5, Neutroplast, together with its partners, developed a medical device for medication adherence and compliance. aptaMED is a monitoring base, ready to be easily used with a wide range of pre-existing medicine bottles, giving it new functionalities to help the user during drug therapy. To do this, the device needs to be programmed for the time and day of the prescribed dose, which can be done by the patient or via IoT systems integrated into the health and wellness area. After this programming, alerts are generated both on the product and on the mobile application, allowing medication to be monitored and validated in real time. The mobile device can also be used to check the history of medication taken, as well as providing feedback on treatment adherence by sending messages and other alerts.
