We talked to the top-graded quality manager at Neutroplast, Joana Gomes, to understand why are the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries so invested in certifying their operations and so prone to demand certifications from their suppliers. The answer is simple, even though there are more than a few reasons for it.
First and foremost, the control of the finished product must be guaranteed, since this category of products has a high influence on consumer health and safety, and the control provided by the several certifications is a sound way to make sure the production and distribution of these products holds to the safety and quality needed.
Traceability is another aspect of most productive certification and of vital importance when applying changes to products or processes, when consistency is vital in the defence of the consumer, along with upholding quality standards and repeatable product behaviour.
But even though the gains of upholding certifications are vital to the Pharma and cosmetics markets there is a considerable investment needed, in time, paperwork, be it physical or digital, and means of production. This effort spans across the entire supply chain as fulfilling certification requisites guarantees procedure upholding and consistency of results.
Materials, production conditions and record tracking all must be in accordance, be it in high or low risk products, as the failure to uphold the customer?s requisites may end up tarnishing a product. As a result, products usually have a higher cost per unit, since lower risks validate higher costs.
All these reasons justify the undergoing continuous improvement of quality standards throughout the industry, where more certifications get added to facilities and products, along with an effort to reduce delays and quantity of paperwork, through evolving processes that end up in global improvements, better products and more reliable processes.
