SUSTAINABLE PLASTICS
SUSTAINABLE PLASTICS

The SUSTAINABLE PLASTICS project represents a Green Agenda capable of leveraging the plastics sector's transition to a circular economy. It arises from an initiative by APIP - the Portuguese Plastics Industry Association, which aims through this application to mobilise the private sector, assisted by national authorities, universities and citizens, thus contributing to the objectives of the European Circular Economy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, greater resource efficiency and job creation.

On this agenda, Neutroplast, together with PIEP and INESC TEC, will develop the NEUTRO.BOTTLE project - packaging for the pharmaceutical and food sectors based on new biomaterials to replace PE and PP.

New biomaterials have emerged to replace PP and PE due to the problem of plastic and its excessive use. The introduction of bio polymers in this sector is practically non-existent, so there are naturally associated uncertainties. As such, this project aims to develop, test and industrialise primary packaging for the health sector, with food and/or pharmaceutical quality requirements, incorporating bio polymers, thereby reducing the percentage of polymers of petroleum origin.
