Injection moulding (IM)
IM is the technology for products requiring accuracy and challenging shapes.
It is a fast process that is used to produce large numbers of identical items from high precision engineering components to disposable consumer goods such as pails, spoons, closures etc.

Advantages
Final product with high precision
Available for a large variety of raw materials
Few limitations in the design of the product
Inconvenients
Tooling Investment
The injection moulding machine consists of a heated barrel equipped with a screw that melts the polymer. The polymer is injected by high pressure into a mould that defines the shape of the moulded part. Then the part is cooled to form the solid object. The mould is opened and the object is discharged.
The mould can be uses to manufacture one part in a repeating process or incorporating multi cavities many components can be manufactured on the same tool repeatedly with a single injection.
